Nigerian indigenous rapstress and powerful chanteuse, Favour Anosike, professionally known as Ugoccie, has continued her intriguing run with the release of the debate-spinner, Hookup. The song, which is a follow-up to her Phyno-assisted hit single Breakfast, is a profound commentary on prostitution by women in society.
Produced by Endeetone, the song “comes from a real place for me,” Ugoccie explains.
“I want to speak on how social issues like poverty make many Nigerian women susceptible to hook-up culture, and how it is consequently imperilling their lives.”
Keeping up the momentum of her earlier singles such as Do You Really Like Me? and Obi Cubana, Ugoccie has been able to harness the virality of her fame on Tik-Tok into an illustrious career, and ultimately, an unprecedented Headies 2022 nomination for the Rookie of the Year Award that has further put her in the spotlight.
Ugoccie’s emergence on the music scene is a breath of fresh air; both for female musicians, as well as the Igbo rap culture in Nigeria.
