Dharmesh Sheth has confirmed that Liverpool are favourites to sign Jude Bellingham.
Last week, the Telegraph reported – as covered by HITC Sport – that the Anfield outfit were leading the race to sign the highly-rated Borussia Dortmund midfielder.
Still only 19, Bellingham has a frighteningly-high ceiling in football and Liverpool-based journalist James Pearce revealed too this week that the Reds will certainly firm up their interest in 2023.
And Sheth of Sky Sports has revealed that the Merseysiders are indeed winning the race to sign him.
He told Give Me Sport: “It seems that they are the favourites to sign Jude Bellingham and, in the end, they went and signed Arthur Melo.
“Now, that might suggest that Jude Bellingham is the long-term target for Liverpool and they probably accepted, given how late it was in the window and Borussia Dortmund’s reticence to sell two of their big players in the same transfer window, that it was going to be impossible to get him in this transfer window.”
As mentioned, it’s genuinely quite ridiculous that Bellingham is only 19 and already proving troublesome to teams like Manchester City.
Last week, the former Birmingham City starlet scored in a Champions League defeat away to Pep Guardiola’s side, something that’ll only have enhanced Liverpool’s interest.
This is a player who’s already good enough, someone who’s already playing with a wisdom, class and maturity well beyond his years.
And that’s the good news.
The bad news, however, is that it could set Liverpool back as much as £174 million, according to the latest CIES figures.
And with Fenway Sports Group only just breaking the club’s transfer record on £85 million Darwin Nunez, well they might not be ready to drop another £90 million on Bellingham so soon after signing the Uruguayan.
