BREVARD COUNTY — Generosity knows no bounds in Brevard County, and although many charities call the 321 their home, all flourish with the kindness of those in the area.
One Senior Place (OSP) is well known for providing our senior community (and their families) with a wealth of resources, programs, and events. These resources aim to help our seniors maintain a well-rounded, 21st-century-style, quality of life. In addition to being the senior community One-Stop Shop, OSP hosts an annual holiday fundraiser for a local charity. This year’s lucky recipient is the Sharing Center of Central Brevard (SCCB).
Serving the Central Brevard community for 44 years (1978), SCCB is a charitable juggernaut, a legacy, to be sure.
“We provide emergency assistance and guidance to those in our community who struggle to obtain life’s most basic needs,” said David Brubaker, President & CEO of SCCB.
The organization offers tremendous help to those in need via a community kitchen, a pair of thrift stores, and a series of programs, including the Emergency Food Program, Children’s Weekend Feeding Program, Health & Hygiene Program, Shower Program, Clothing & Shoe Program, Furniture & Household Items Program, Cold Night Shelter Program, and Financial Assistance Program.
Their ability to provide countless essentials for basic living is proof-positive of their far-reaching achievements.
One Senior Place looks forward to helping the Sharing Center’s cause this year with the Tea & Fashion Show Fundraiser. The event takes place on Friday, December 2nd, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., at 8085 Spyglass Hill Rd, Melbourne.
With a little help from their friends (National League of American Pen Women’s Group), OSP is putting on one heck of a show for the Sharing Center. The hour-and-a-half event is jam-packed with mirth and merriment. There’s a gift basket raffle, tea and refreshments, a fashion show, a pop-up boutique, and the Pen Women’s bookstore.
Gift baskets of every size and theme – such as food, wine, sweets, kitchen items, candles, and more – have been lovingly donated by local businesses and individuals. There’s also a fun twist for raffle purchases: $5 for one ticket, $10 from fingertip to elbow, $15 from fingertip to shoulder, and $25 for a body length of tickets. Essentially, the taller you are, the more tickets you’ll score for the price! So, bring your tallest family member with you. If you don’t have one handy, it’s time to get friendly with your tall neighbor!
Tea service will be an elegant affair with refreshments donated by several living communities in our area. “Ladies love tea!” said Barbara Fradkin, Aging Life Care Professional and Director of One Senior Place. “We wanted to make this event special and fun,” she continued, “bringing us back to the 50s/’60s when ladies would dress up, enjoy afternoon tea, and watch a fashion show for all the latest must-haves.
Tea service will begin with Mr. Brubaker saying a few words on behalf of the Sharing Center of Brevard. Donna Puglisi will follow, informing you of all the latest goings-on with the Pen Women’s Group. The fashion show will then commence, MC’d by Chris Dunne, a dynamic personality that’s sure to entertain.
Pen Women members will model fashion pieces showcasing apparel donated to the Sharing Center. These are fabulous garments that will be available for purchase after the show at the pop-up boutique. The boutique will also feature exquisite items from the Sharing Center thrift stores. These carefully curated items represent what you can discover at SCCB, including clothing, jewelry, and decor at rock-bottom prices. You can get half your holiday gift-giving done in an hour!
The Pen Women’s Group has also staged a bookstore for the event. Books of every genre – bestsellers, fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, and more – will be on hand for the book lover on your holiday list; or, better yet, for yourself! The bookstore is a perfect opportunity to give back to the community while supporting these talented writers, way ahead of Small-Business Saturday.
“This will be a fun event to attend and support,” said Ms. Fradkin. “Brevard is very generous to those in need, but the holidays can strain resources,” she continued. “If we reach a little further, we can truly make a difference in someone’s life.”
Further endorsing Ms. Fradkin’s sentiments, Audrey Chow-Jones (OSP Client Relations Manager) and Marion Coste (Letters Member with the Pen Women’s Group) agree, “The Tea and Fashion Show fundraiser raises awareness of the critical services OSP and SCCB provide our communities.”
