After 48 hours in captivity, the Anglican Bishop of Jebba Diocese, Kwara State, Rt. Rev Oluwaseun Aderogba, his wife and driver have regained their freedom.
Oyo State Police Command, in a statement yesterday, by its Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said the couple and their driver were released unhurt at aboput 6:20p.m. on Tuesday.
He explained that the three of them had been reunited with their families.
Osifeso added that the abductors were pressurised into freeing their captive because of the heat turned on them by the massive deployment of the police in the area for search and rescue operations.
He said: “The abducted Bishop Rt. Revd Aderogba Adeyinka of Jebba Anglican Diocese regained his freedom unhurt alongside his wife and driver at about 1820 hours, Tuesday, June 14.
“The clergyman in the company of his wife and driver were abducted on Sunday, June 12, at about 2100HRS, after the victim’s vehicle developed mechanical fault while travelling from Yewa, Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State enroute an isolated area along New Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.
“The deployment of police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of the entire area by the Police Tactical teams pressurised the abductors in freeing the victims.
“Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice.”
